Mechanical Engineer / Fitter - Water Industry

We are seeking a qualified Mechanical Engineer / Fitter with proven experience in mechanical installation, maintenance and refurbishment within the water or heavy industrial sector.

This is a site-based role delivering works across water and wastewater treatment sites, pumping stations and associated infrastructure projects. The role requires flexibility to travel and undertake overnight stays when required (hotel costs covered).

Duties:

You will be responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing and refurbishing mechanical plant and equipment in compliance with WIMES standards, client specifications and health & safety regulations.

  • Installation, alignment and commissioning of pumps, valves, actuators, pipework and associated mechanical systems

  • Pipework installation in ductile iron, stainless steel, carbon steel, UPVC and ABS (25mm – 1200mm diameter)

  • Mechanical fault-finding, diagnostics and corrective works

  • Planned maintenance, breakdown repairs and refurbishment of assets

  • Interpretation of engineering drawings, specifications and method statements

  • Completion of maintenance records and quality documentation

  • Ensuring safe systems of work and full HSE compliance

Working Hours & Overtime

  • Standard hours:07:30 – 17:30 (45 hours per week)

  • Overtime available:

    • Monday–Friday (20:00–07:00) – 1.33x

    • Saturday – 1.5x

    • Sunday – 1.66x

  • No call-out rota

Requirements:

  • Recognised Mechanical Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)

  • Proven experience within water or heavy industrial environments

  • Strong pipework installation background across multiple materials

  • Knowledge of pumps, rotating equipment and mechanical systems

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings

  • Full UK Driving Licence
